There is a big John Lewis in the centre of town attached to a large shopping mall holding all the top retail fashion brands, such as Top Shop and Monsoon. Off the market square you will find a collection of lovely historical shopping lanes brimming with independent retailers as well as brands such as Fat Face, Jig Saw, White Stuff, Zara and Jack Wills. The town has a wonderful cosmopolitan mix similar to London. The atmosphere is relaxed and less fast paced. Academia and commerce combine well here to create a typical British mix of history and heritage with all the positives of modern life.
