Halcyon Fashion days

love this - the fashion era of simplicity of silhouette - 1960s

high shoes in the 1920s - these look torturous

A Chanel coat cir 1920
fluting taken to extremes - effective though

interesting trend here wearing jewels on one's back ! the back detail being the main feature! feminine boyishness - flat chests a must - no cleavage encouraged - breasts were literally strapped down!!

love the composition of this shot

cool bikes - was it colder then?

those big coat collars are very chic -

languid summer frocks - Chanel - beautiful light

sweet and demure!
Sexy .... like this look! halternecks are so flattering ....

this season taking influence from the flapper style, a key layered look using light sheer and or opaque jersey fabrics that fall well and don't crease - so flattering, cool and easy to wear.
I like to see jersey sleeveless jackets with graduating short to long hems worn with jeans and high leather boots.

Twiggy on Film...

Did you know that Twiggy (aca real name Lesley Hornby) stared in a Ken Russell movie based on a musical by Sandy Wilson called The Boy Friend in the 1971? During this time anything 1920s was derigueur. If one looks back at the fashions and hair of the time there was a boyish androgyny typical of the 1920s flat chested flapper style fashion premiered in the 1920s decade post the first world war, think Biba, Mary Quant and Ossie Clark. Twiggy looked exquisite in the film - the sets and costumes were inspirational, and it has a cult status now rather like Blow - up.

The music written by Sandy Wilson has simple catchy melodies.
The boy Friend is a tongue in cheek pastiche of the 1920's and is one of the most performed amateur dramatics musicals apparently. It was recently performed in the open air theatre in Regents park London with Ruthie Henshaw, getting rave revues. The fact that a simple band can perform the songs and that it is an innocent comedy with a love story attached with parts for a range of age groups and talents makes it very popular.

The film and CD can be found on Amazon.

Karl Largerfeld's Chanel Cruise Collection launch in St Tropez

Leading the trend with Stella McCartney for 1970s colourful and bold prints on pants, tops and maxi dresses, the Chanel girl looked inspirational on the Quay in Saint Tropez.

Cool jet set shot, a young Karl look alike no doubt!

wonderful light makes this a lovely shot of Georgia May Jagger

Georgia May Jagger clearly having a ripping time!

Vanessa Paradis and Karl

Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld has his holiday maison in Saint Tropez and knows the town well. This is probably the reason why he chose to launch his Chanel Cruise collection next to the St Tropez Quay. The show took place on the 12th May a few weeks before I arrived from Paris by train to trend spot.

St Tropez - key trends 2010

Ethnic trend - characterised by accessorising with a tapestry bag

A 1970s maxi print dress a la Ozzie Clarke, a key silhouette for this summer in the sun, wear this with long beads on or off the shoulder and keep cool and be cool by wearing this look with a Panama hat.

A sexy midi dress with feminine lace hem flutes a wonderfully glamourous and elegant look for a special occasion.

Beads are big this season! check out the homage to the Fruit du Mer here....

A reference to the emerging 'craft' trend going main stream found here on bags in a swanky boutique in one of the exclusive shopping maze like lanes in the centre of St Tropez.

Our British Mini is not only loved dearly in the UK - it is a cult design icon in the rest of Europe and the world.

Multi coloured and print and embroidered bandanas found in the St Tropez market point to this cool Mediterranean accessories trend...

Panamas, and floppys also de rigueur in the summer sun in St Tropez

Bold 1970s inspired florals found in St Tropez market

Floaty easy to wear cool whites in fresh small cotton prints a classic wardrobe item here.

bold 1970s brights again ...very popular for the evening, worn with teetering sexy platforms or flat gladiator sandals a great summer look.

The Boho look predominated in St Tropez, right on trend colourful bold prints were to be found on a variety of outfits from simple tunic tops to long fringed and fluted exotic maxi dresses. Tapestry bags and exotic tribal and ethnic leather bags and shoes were de regueur here. Gladiator sandals with spangly gems or ethnic beads sparkled in the Mediterranean sun perfectly. White is the classic wardrobe essential in the Med, and is worn with simple style and verve by all.
