The Tie -

I would like to see a fashion shoot devoted to how wearing a man's tie can be a really cool look.
The androgyny trend and 'wearing boyfriends clothes' trend is still out there. I have never seen a really cool fashion shoot totally exploring the potential of a woman wearing a mans tie - I don't mean wearing it in the conventional way with a suit - this would be boring, I mean styled in an unusual and quirky way exploring all the potential there is for a sexy and simple look -
Chrissy Hynde does this extreemly well and gives it a sexy intimate style - one wonders if this is Ray Davis's tie perhaps ( her then boyfriend) I love it worn with the waistcoat here.....
The bow tie image above is a Chanel interpretation of the androgyny look - not an everyday look though cute - I would like to see the bow and straight tie worn out there with jeans - at a music festival with T shirts and skirts for example - it could be used as a great symbol of woman's power and emancipation too -
Mens fashion is tending to casual dress, dropping the tie in some cases - so why don't we adopt the tie girls ?
not to be worn in a school girl way though - yuk!

This casual look it great - not formal at all, boyfriend reference is there, an easy to wear comfortable style..... more please !

Danish Elle

I am really pleased to announce that one of my students from Denmark has got herself a job at Danish Elle.
Sarah did an excellent editorial shoot project for an AW2010 -11 fashion trend calling it 'Recession Chic'.

Sarah says.....

"I just wanted to thank you for the most inspiring classes at St Martins. It was a true pleasure to join the Art Direction course. And I want to tell you that it most certainly payed off as I just got accepted at Danish ELLE where I'm going to work from next week. It is just awesome and my employer was very impressed by our work with you in the classes."

I am so excited for her and look forward to hearing how she finds her new job.

Brazilian design talent continued.....

Alexandre Herchcovitch

This dress from the Alexandre Herchcovitch SS2010 collection really stands out for me - it is the most interesting silhouette in this collection and has a hint of Russian doll about it that maybe led him to develop this theme so successfully for AW2010.

Well known in Brazil and now based State side in New York there is another Brazilian designer making an impact on the fashion scene. Alexandre Herchcovitch born in Sao Paulo in 1971, initially influenced by a creative mother has developed a unique and increasingly commercial style.
His Babushka meets Bedouin AW2010 collection is his best yet in my opinion. The veritable riot of textural contrasts created with crocheted lace, fish scale sequins, smooth silks, matted wool and shiny velvets combined with brave cutting and tailoring is a triumph and very wearable. The attention to detail ensure the investment buy credentials are strong. The collection is seductive and luxurious for a more cautious market and opulent without being showy. A good quality to have in these more prudent times.

The Brazilian's have arrived !

Basso and Brooke

Issa

The Brazilians as we all know are an innately stylish race. Some of the most celebrated catwalk models such as Gisele Bundchen discovered by Mario Testino on a talent scout mission in Sao Paulo have played a significant role in influencing the fashion look of the moment. Beauty, style and effortless sex appeal are part of the Brazilian woman's make -up. We can see this reflected in the way she styles herself and the way she wears her clothes with a seemingly effortless demure panache.
Two Brazilian designer brands based in London are Issa and Basso and Brooke.

Daniella Issa Helayel who is worn by Kate Middleton has become an important label in London Fashion Week. The fact that our potential future queen has noticed the sex appeal of her clothes has not gone unnoticed by the fashion press.
Issa says she designs "beautiful collections that make lots of people very happy. We want to offer clothes that are multi-functional, for an urban lifestyle.”

Basso and Brooke an Anglo Brazilian partnership made up of Bruno Basso and Christopher Brooke are another fashion force to be reckoned with. Their collections are modern and truly covetable.
What I love about this label is there is a definite Basso and Brooke hand writing that is unique and identifiable - much in the same way that one knew an Alexander McQueen. One can see the sexy womanly styling a la Brazil combined with a very modern almost futuristic twist. The patterns and colour combinations woven together with fabulous tailoring and body con cuts from both the SS2010 and AW2010/11 collections are inspirational.

what a great dress -

Alexander McQueen - an icon, this dress looks futuristic but at the same time is very commercial and pretty - he was such a genius.

Steven Meisel - a shoot like Marmite!

Can't like this one above.......

Can't like this one above .....

Abi Lee Kershaw looks fab here

Amber Valetta !

Lara Stone

When I first saw this editorial shoot in Vogue Italia called 'Shrink To Fit,Steven Meisel's overgrown school girls' to be honest I didn't like it - I looked at this collection of beautiful models and was shocked to see them look like they had been sleeping rough under the arches!
However, the more I look at the images the fascinating thing is (and you won't believe this) - or maybe you will, they have grown on me and I can see the images as rather arresting and beautiful, the contrast maximizes the beauty of these girls, the photography moves from fashion into reportage portraiture. It is a brave shoot and there are two shockers that still however many times I look at them I still can't like - I have high lighted them ......

This styling is only for the very gorgeous and young ........
